Each year, we invite experienced professionals from across tourism, hospitality, events and related sectors to contribute their knowledge to this respected regional awards programme.
Judging is a rewarding opportunity to support the industry, recognise excellence and help shape the future of tourism in Aberdeen City and Shire.
Role & Expectations
Role Overview
Judges play a vital role in maintaining the credibility and integrity of the awards.
As a judge, you will:
- Sign up to the ACSTA Code of Conduct
Review and score written submissions independently - Participate in structured judging discussions
- Contribute to shortlisting decisions
- Conduct mystery visits (where applicable)
- Take part in face-to-face finalist interviews (individual categories)
- Provide detailed written feedback via the online scoring platform
Judges are assigned to categories aligned with their sector expertise and must declare any conflicts of interest.
All judging is undertaken in confidence.
Expectations
To ensure fairness and professionalism, judges are required to:
- Attend at least one in-person judging briefing session
- Be available for face-to-face finalist interviews (where applicable)
- Adhere strictly to non-negotiable judging deadlines
- Provide comprehensive written comments at all stages of scoring
- Complete finalist summary forms where required
- Maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Refrain from publicly disclosing their judging role during the awards cycle
- Never reveal shortlist or winner information prior to official announcements
- Conduct themselves in a manner that does not bring the awards into disrepute
Judges are expected to approach all submissions objectively, fairly and without bias.
The role requires time commitment, professionalism and attention to detail.
